A MESSAGE FOR NON-ADVENTIST READERS

Welcome to our non-Adventist readers.

Finding an accurate depiction of Adventism can be challenging as many different perspectives and often opposing views are offered over the web. How can you come to one sound conclusion about who Adventists are? Are they a cult? Do they preach a false gospel? Is the Sabbath about the "right" day to worship?

We empathize in hopes that your visit here may contribute to a fresh and different perception. But first, relax and unwind. You will not find attempts of subtle manipulation to convert you to our brand of "truth" here. We trust God's grace alone will get you to the eternal party. All we ask is that you chip in to the discussion of our narrative, whether you agree with us or not.

"So what's up with those Adventists?"

You may have heard that we believe in "observing" the Sabbath of the Ten Commandments. This may portray us as immature in our understanding of righteousness by faith as the plan of salvation. While some Adventists believe it's about a "right day of worship," others see Sabbath, not as a law you must "keep" in fearful obedience, but as a day of grace to imitate God, who rested from His works at creation. And as a day to celebrate His redemption for all of humanity after His finished work on Calvary.

So why this message to you? Simply for clarification purposes. You see, not all Adventists interpret everything in the Bible the same way, making this denomination, like any other, fragmented into different camps claiming varying sets of beliefs, cultural standards, and how we view the world.

As Adventists, our contributions to the Christian conversation reside in a post-liberal / post-conservative ethos. That ethos may not exactly always represent traditional teachings of our worldwide church. We can live with that. Our space within Adventism finds itself engaging the ever-shifting emerging and secular generation rather than reject the "apostasy" of its postmodernity.

As we make sense of our own Adventism in this generation, we are viewing it through new cultural lenses. This new culture, we believe, will transcend future generations of Adventist Christians. It is....

...a culture of questioning and seeking what "truth" is.

...a culture where relationships mean more than institutions.

...a culture helping people bring more wholeness to their world.

...a culture not consumed by how many people we bring into the kingdom, but how much of the kingdom we bring to the earth.

...a culture not concerned with methods of "attracting" others, or how "effective" we are in doing mission, but how FAITHFUL we are to our God and how FAITHFULLY we live in the story of God.
